Ruth Kurkal

Felt Artist

Ruth Kurkal is a Cumbrian Felt artist that creates charming herdwick inspired creations that are very unique: From herdwick wool felted soaps to little figures and more.

Ruth found enjoyment crafting and felting for many ears, and through the growth of her own skills she was able to teach others, running workshops on how to create her wonderful felted soaps. Although she no longer teaches regularly with workshops she does still create felted crafts, continuing to explore the medium and try new things, gaining great inspiration from her surroundings in the Lake District and the lovely sheep she gets her wool.

What is Needle Felting:

Needle felting is a dry felting technique which requires the use of one or more specially designed needles to manipulate wool fibers in order to form a shape. The modern form of needle felting dates back to late 20th century, and is now used by artists and craftspeople to sculpt objects and embellish textiles with wool.
